Raja Ravi Varma


Raja Ravi Varma (1848 - 1906) was born in Kilimanoor, Kerala. Ravi Varma was educated as a court artist in Trivandrum. In 1868, he learnt the oil painting technique from European painter, Theodore Jensen. A few of his selected exhibitions were held at: Vienna Exhibition, Austria ( 1873), Inaugural Exhibition, Bombay Art Society, Mumbai (1889), Lalit Kala Sangam, Chennai (1903). He was awarded the Gaekwad Gold Medal, Poona in 1880.
