Anjum Singh, a Santiniketan trained artist went to US to study painting and print making at Concoran School of Art, Washington D C in 1992 and it’s there that she began experimenting with her works and mediums. She delves into the global - the life of the metropolis such as Delhi through the use of ordinary, mundane objects from everyday life uncovering the layer after layer coming from her own sense of perception of vulnerability.

Anjum dwells into the binary concept of purity and pollution - the inside and the outside- through the representational forms and images of manholes, water bottles, pipe lines culled from her intimate encounters with the city. Through her paintings and installations, she is constantly negotiating with her creative self and the city she lives in.

In the era of high industrialization, where production, consumption and defecation mark the human existence and life is transformed through various reproductions and repetitions, Anjum confines herself to using these edges of everyday life as a metaphor in her works.

Her explorations of commercialization, urban living, civic services in the city are reflected in her works representing the reality- the reality of the city that is constructed through repetition, replacements, imaginations, historical and mythical codes.

Anjum completed her BFA in Painting from Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan in 1989 and MFA in Painting from College of Art, New Delhi in 1991. She went on to US to study painting and print making at The Corcoran School of Art, Washington DC, in 1992. She lives and works in New Delhi.
