K M Adimoolam (b. 1938) came to Chennai in 1959 and started working under sculptor Dhanapal. He completed his Diploma in Painting from School of Arts and Crafts, Chennai in 1966. He completed over a hundred drawings of Mahatma Gandhi before moving to abstract.

Adimmolam’s work has been shown in several Indian and international shows including 25 Years of Indian Art, New Delhi (1972), Seven South Indian Painters, Australia (1973), 84 Sketch Book Series, Sarla Art Centre, Chennai and Kritika Art Gallery, Bangalore(1983), 6th Triennale India, New Delhi (1986), 19th Sao Paulo Biennale, Brazil (1987) Kala Yatra Show, Bangalore (1989), Nature and Environment, organized by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (1989), Touch Stone, Sakshi Gallery, Chennai and Bangalore (1990-91). He has being recipient of Lalit Kala Akademi Award, Chennai (1963-65), Chitra Kala Parishad Award, Bangalore (1963), Bombay Art Society Award, Mumbai (1965-66), Hyderabad Art Society Award, Hyderabad (1965-66), Award by Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata (1973) and National Award, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (1979).

Adimoolam passed away in January 2008.
