Nasreen Mohamedi was born in Karachi in 1937. She completed her education in art at Central Saint Martin’s in London in 1957 and was even awarded the French Government Scholarship to Paris while she trained at Monsieur Guillard’s Atelier from 1961 to 1963. Mohamedi eventually returned to India to teach in the Faculty of Fine Arts, MS University, Baroda and developed a more abstract style of drawing and painting. Her work has been exhibited all over the world. Some of her important exhibitions include ‘Pictorial Space’, sponsored by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, 1977; Artists Indiens en France, Centre National de Arts Plastiques, Paris, France, 1985; The Grid, Unplugged: Important Drawings from 1970's, Talwar Gallery, New York, 2008; Crossings: Time Unfolded, Part 2, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi, 2012. Nasreen Mohamedi passed away in 1990 in India.
