K S Kulkarni (1918-1994) was born in Karnataka. Kulkarni studied fine arts at the J.J School of Art. In the years 1941-43, he was a research scholar to study painting at the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Mumbai. In 1950, he was nominated to represent India at the International Arts Program, USA. Few of his solo exhibitions were at the International Art Exhibition, London (1949), Arthur Newton Gallery, New York (1951), Kumar Gallery, New Delhi (1952-59). Some of his group exhibitions were 'Modern Indian Painters', USA and South America (1960), 'Indian Painters', USSR (1963). K S Kulkarni was given the Emeritus Fellowship, Department of Culture by Government of India. Kulkarni was awarded the Parishad Sanman by Sahitya Kala Parishad, New Delhi in 1986.
