Sunil Gawde (b. 1960, Mumbai) graduated in fine art from Sir J J School of Arts, Mumbai in 1980. As a recipient of Charles Wallace scholarship, he spent a year (1995-96) as visiting artist at the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland. Since 1990, Gawde has had 11 solo exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, instalaltions and composite owrk including 'Radium Glass' (Mackintosh Museum, Glasgow, 1997), '1 mm' (Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, 2001), '8 seconds ahead of time' (Sakshi Gallery, Bangalore, 2002) and 'Blind bulb etc' (Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai and Delhi, 2005). He has also participated in many group shows like 'Bombay, Maximum City' (Lille, 2006), 'Made by Indians' (St. Tropez, 2006), 'Art on the Corniche' (Abu Dhabi, 2007). Gawde's work has also been exhibited at SHC Contemporary (Shanghai, 2007), Pulse Miami (Miami, 2008) and ARCO 09 (Madrid, 2009).

Gawde was invited to participate in the 53 Venice Biennale (2009), curated by Daniel Birnbaum.
