Dhruva Mistry was born in Kanjari, Gujarat in 1957. Mistry studied at the M.S University of Baroda from 1974-1981. He then went to study at the Royal College of Art in London on a British Council Scholarship. Mistry was Artist in Residence at Kettle's Yard in Cambridge, with a Fellowship at Churchill College, Cambridge in 1984-85 and sculptor in residence at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London in 1988. Some of his important solo exhibitions were: at Kettle's Yard Gallery, Cambridge (1985), Work 1990-1995, Royal Academy, Friends Room, London (1995), Something Else, Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai (2014) Few of his significant group exhibitions were: Metamorphing, Science Museum, London (2002), Secret, Royal College of Art, London (2004), Agape, Hacienda Art Gallery, Mumbai (2011). Mistry was elected Royal Academician in 1991 and Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1993. In 1997 Mistry took over as Professor, Head of Sculpture and Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at M S University of Baroda. Mistry was awarded Honorary CBE by Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth, London in 2001.
