Devi Prasad Roy Chowdhury


Devi Prasad Roy Chowdhury was born in Bangladesh in 1899. His early training in art was under Abanindranath Tagore. D.P. Roy Chowdhury served as the head of department at the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Madras. He was also nominated as the first Chairman of the Lalit Kala Akademi during the years 1954 to 1960. In 1958, the artist was awarded a Padma Bhushan by the President of India followed by an honorary D. Litt by Rabindra Bharati University in 1968. His works are part of collections at the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, NGMA, New Delhi, Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Calcutta and several other museums. He died in 1975.
